PLENTY OF ENERGY ON THE WAY FOR THE SOUTH-WEST

By Katie Jackson
The incoming swell source is a distant polar low that broadens deeply across the 60 to 45deg latitudes today. We’ve been watching this storm come together for some days on the long range, and yesterday it really came into focus. The low produced a wide south-west wind fetch as it moved under Heard Island, and wind speeds of up to 60 knots were captured on satellite.
The core 933mb polar low will travel on a northeast path over the coming 24 hours, and this favourable movement of the storm fetch will bring in additional swell growth as the strong south-west winds stay in direct alignment with WA’s primary swell window from around 230 degrees.
